Meshell Ndegeocello has released a cover of the Human League’s “Don’t You Want Me” featuring Cat Power, according to Pitchfork.
The track is the second single from Ndegeocello’s duets album Synonym. On this version, the synth-pop original is reshaped around a dub reggae groove, with Ndegeocello and Chan Marshall trading verses and joining together in the pre-chorus.
Synonym includes a wide range of collaborators, including Chaka Khan, Bill Callahan, Anohni, Brandi Carlile, Khruangbin’s Laura Lee, Lianne La Havas, Moses Sumney, Nick Hakim, Madison Cunningham, Robert Glasper, and others.
Ndegeocello previously introduced the project with another 1980s cover, joining Cynthia Erivo on a version of Aretha Franklin and George Michael’s “I Knew You Were Waiting (For Me).”
