Members of Melvins, Butthole Surfers and Mr. Phylzzz have launched a new supergroup called Gatta Morta, according to NME. The four-piece features Buzz Osborne, JD Pinkus, Coady Willis and Clinton Jacob.
The band has released its debut single, “Black Hall,” along with details of its first EP, Burn Witch Burn. The record will include four songs: “Taco Bellboy,” “Victims Of The Universe,” “Black Hall” and “Clear Smoke.”
Osborne said he came up with the idea for the group while touring last fall and felt the lineup was an obvious fit. He described the music as “solidly weird rock music that needs to happen.”
Pinkus and Jacob also said they were excited to work together on heavy new material, while Willis summed up the project as “asymmetrical psychedelic warfare in the name of romance.”
According to the press release, Burn Witch Burn combines heavy riffing with psychedelic passages, and is meant to feel familiar to fans of the members’ previous work while still sounding new.
