Matthew McConaughey is adding a new music credit to his name with the release of “Quill,” a bluegrass song from the soundtrack for his upcoming film The Rivals of Amziah King, according to E! News.
The film stars McConaughey as Amziah King, an unofficial mayor in an Oklahoma town who spends time playing music with friends. The track also features Ben Hardesty, Miranda Zickler, Angelina LookingGlass and Andrea Pister.
The Rivals of Amziah King is set to open Aug. 14, and the story follows beekeeper Amziah King as he deals with rivals trying to sabotage his honey business. The film also centers on his estranged foster daughter, Kateri, played by Angelina LookingGlass.
McConaughey said at the film’s SXSW debut in March 2025 that he was drawn to the project because it felt original and full of heart, according to Deadline. The role also marks one of his first movies in more than six years.
