According to UPI Odd News, a Maryland man nearly gave away a scratch-off lottery ticket to settle a small debt, only to find out it was worth $50,000.
John Hamilton Jr. of Cumberland said he bought the $5,000,000 LUXE ticket for $50 at a Sheetz store on McMullen Highway in Cresaptown. He placed it in his back pocket and almost forgot about it.
The next day, Hamilton said he ran into a friend and offered the ticket to settle a $40 debt. He said his wife stepped in at the last moment and stopped the exchange.
Hamilton later checked the ticket and learned it was a winner. He said the money will go toward a Disney cruise for his family and paying down his mortgage.
