Maricopa has moved down three places in SafeWise’s latest “Top Ten Safest Cities” survey, falling from No. 7 to No. 10 in Arizona, according to InMaricopa.
The online safety site based its ranking on 2024 FBI crime data and did not include Maricopa Police Department statistics from 2025 or 2026. SafeWise regularly compiles research and data into ranked lists for the public.
Police Chief Mark Goodman said one ranking cannot show every part of a community’s safety picture or the work that goes into maintaining it. During the department’s annual report presentation in April, he said the city’s spending on public safety has produced a meaningful result for a fast-growing community.
SafeWise’s report also found that nearly 56% of Arizonans are worried about property crime, which placed Arizona sixth in the nation for that concern. In Maricopa, violent crime in 2024 dropped from 2.6 to 2.3 incidents per 1,000 residents, while property crime rose from 8.0 to 9.2 per 1,000 residents.
According to the report, Maricopa still saw a 2% decline in crime per capita after a 1% drop in 2024. San Luis was named the safest city in Arizona, with 0.9 violent crimes and 5.6 property crimes per 1,000 residents.
