Maricopa’s 347 Facts Committee has received statewide recognition for its grassroots campaign to improve State Route 347, according to InMaricopa.
The group was presented with the Arizona Transportation Partnering Excellence Award during the Arizona Conference on Roads and Streets in Tucson on Sept. 24. Ron Angerame accepted the honor on behalf of the committee alongside Shawnte Rothschild and Tena Dugan.
According to the report, the award highlights teams that bring together agencies, organizations and communities to address transportation problems. The 347 Facts Committee was recognized for helping rally residents to send thousands of emails to state legislators and transportation leaders in support of widening and improvement projects for SR 347.
That effort helped move transportation bills to the governor’s desk last year, secure about $140 million in funding and earn a place on the Arizona Department of Transportation’s five-year construction plan. Initial work on the project began in June.
Angerame said the committee first learned about the nomination in May and that traveling to Tucson made the recognition feel especially meaningful. He said the group was proud to be recognized by the state for its work.
