Tablescaping season is back in the spotlight as social media fills with competition judging videos and plenty of commentary, according to E! News. The term refers to elaborately designed dining tables created for events, exhibitions and contests.
E! News spoke with TikTok creator Marc Sebastian, whose tablescaping judging videos have become a yearly favorite around the OC Fair competition. Sebastian said a strong tablescape needs what he calls SERV: self-awareness, execution, resourcefulness and visual appeal.
He told E! that the most memorable tables are the ones that keep revealing new details the more you look at them. He also said creators should pay attention to the small elements, not just the overall concept.
The article notes that successful tablescapers often start with a vision and color palette, then build out the table with linens, plates, glassware, candles and decor. Sebastian said he especially likes unconventional materials and believes dedication is what helps some entries stand out.
