Man in bong suit sings Lizzo parody at Cranford meeting, then another speaker is arrested

A Township of Cranford committee meeting in New Jersey took an unexpected turn on Tuesday, July 7, when a man dressed in a purple bong suit took the podium and performed a parody of Lizzo’s “About Damn Time,” according to Stereogum.

The performer, identified by the outlet as Mike Vintzileos and known at the meeting as Bongholeo, arrived with a crying baby doll in a red bong outfit and delivered a song about smoking weed and being a bong. He was applauded before leaving the meeting with a shout of “love Cranford,” according to the report.

After that, longtime government critic Will Thilly took the microphone with a sign reading “Refuse Gov't Abuse.” Stereogum says he spoke about government overreach, then began singing Morrissey’s “The More You Ignore Me, The Closer I Get.”

According to the report, committee members warned Thilly three times that he had exceeded his time. He kept singing, the committee recessed, and he was later arrested after being removed from the meeting. The report says he was charged with aggravated assault with bodily injury on a law enforcement officer.

Another speaker, Leon Truth, later took the podium to support Thilly, read a parody poem and ended by chanting “Free Will Thilly.”
