Man arrested at Maricopa Walmart after trying to use old receipt, police say

Maricopa police arrested 38-year-old Kenny Wilson on July 27 on suspicion of shoplifting and resisting arrest after Walmart employees reported seeing him try to leave the store with a large amount of unbagged merchandise, according to a probable cause statement cited by InMaricopa.

Police said Wilson produced a receipt when asked whether he had paid for the items, then set the merchandise down and walked out of the store. Officers found him in the parking lot and tried to take him into custody.

According to the report, Wilson did not follow repeated commands to stop and kept walking away with his hands raised. Officers drew a Taser before he eventually complied and lay on the ground.

Police also noted that Wilson was wearing an ankle monitor and had been arrested June 19 in Maricopa County on a theft-related charge. The merchandise he left behind was valued at $351.
