Ariana Grande to step back from public-facing work after tour ends

Ariana Grande plans to take a step back from public-facing work once her current tour ends, according to a statement from her representative shared with People and reported by Rolling Stone.

The rep said Grande will step back from visibility after she completes the Eternal Sunshine Tour. The statement added that she wants to finish the run “on a high note,” while staying healthy and happy, before taking a well-earned break from appearances and public scrutiny.

As part of that change, Grande will no longer appear in a London West End revival of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park With George. The project would have reunited her with her Wicked co-star Jonathan Bailey.

Fans recently raised concerns online about Grande’s physical condition after the release of her “Petal” music video, but a source close to the singer told People that she performs a demanding show and does so successfully night after night. The North American leg of the Eternal Sunshine Tour ends this week after three shows in Chicago, and the full tour is set to conclude September 1 at London’s O2 Arena.

Grande is also expected to remain active in film work. She co-stars in the upcoming Meet the Parents sequel Focker-in-Law, which is scheduled for release in November.
