New York Mayor Zohran Mamdani said Friday that Taylor Swift already paid the city more than $160,000 for the permit connected to the Madison Square Garden wedding event, according to Rolling Stone.
Speaking at a consumer protection press conference, Mamdani said the payment covered the permit itself and the city’s response to the event. He said the permit was finalized in the days just before the wedding.
His comments came after reporters asked whether Swift would reimburse New York City for police overtime and other related costs. The question followed public criticism over street closures in Midtown during the July 4 holiday period.
Among those raising concerns was Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, who said on X that Swift and Travis Kelce should reimburse the NYPD for the officers needed to keep the event safe. Rolling Stone reported that no official total cost for the wedding has been released, though planner Lindsay Landman estimated the final price tag could be between $20 million and $25 million.
