KTLA reporter Rachel Menitoff had an unexpected guest during a live broadcast in Los Angeles when a cockroach crawled onto her during a report about the city’s heatwave, according to E! News.
In video from the July 14 segment, the insect appeared on the lower part of her navy jumpsuit before moving up toward her neck and briefly getting caught in her hair. It later jumped onto her microphone and flew away.
Menitoff told the outlet she knew the cockroach was on her, but chose not to react so she could finish the report. She said she told herself to get through the moment and shake it off afterward.
After the live shot, behind-the-scenes footage showed Menitoff brushing off her clothes and arms to make sure there were no more surprise visitors. She also shared the moment on Instagram, calling it a flying cockroach that was trying to steal her thunder.
Her composure drew praise online and from her KTLA colleagues, who said she stayed professional throughout the unexpected encounter.
