Kim Kardashian is mourning the loss of her grandmother, Mary Jo “MJ” Shannon, who died on July 16 at the age of 91, according to E! News.
In an Instagram tribute, Kardashian described MJ as her “best friend,” her “gossip buddy” and her “forever twin.” She said her grandmother taught the family the value of sticking together and showed her what it means to be a hardworking businesswoman.
Kardashian also reflected on spending her teenage years working at MJ’s children’s clothing store. She said MJ was always a supporter and a safe place for her, and called her the matriarch of the family whose love lives on in everyone she touched.
In the post, Kardashian said she finds comfort in knowing MJ is at peace. She also wrote that she will always see pieces of her grandmother in her children and grandchildren, and thanked God for making MJ her “mommy.”
Kris Jenner also shared a separate tribute, saying her heart is “broken into a million pieces” but that she is grateful for the childhood and life MJ gave her. Jenner said her mother taught the family that family is everything and that love does not truly leave after someone is gone.
