Krill, the formerly Boston-based indie rock trio, have reunited in Chicago with an updated lineup and are working on new music, according to Pitchfork. The band’s current lineup includes singer-bassist Jonah Furman, drummer Ian Becker, and new guitarist Andrew Clinkman.
The group has released “Commemorative Plaque,” its first new song in 10 years. The single also features Finom violinist Macie Stewart, Tredici Bacci, and Trigger saxophonist Will Greene.
In a statement shared on Instagram, Krill said the song is an ode to Aretha Franklin’s 1970 hit “Call Me,” which Furman said was a staple of his childhood. He described it as a companion piece to “Oppressor” and said it reflects moving back to Chicago after years away.
Krill formed in 2010 and released three albums during their original five-year run before breaking up after relocating to New York City, according to Pitchfork. The band later released a self-titled EP in 2016, and Furman and Becker went on to form Knot in 2020 with original guitarist Aaron Ratoff and Joe DeManuelle-Hall.
