Kids Day Maricopa returned Saturday to Maricopa Wells Middle School, continuing a tradition that has brought local families together for 19 years, according to InMaricopa.
The free event featured activities, entertainment, health and safety information, cultural experiences and chances for children to try something new. Janelle Gomez of Learn with Aloha said the event stands out because it gives kids education in a variety of areas, including mental health, physical activities and cultural learning.
Gomez, who moved to Maricopa from Hawaii, said the community feel at Kids Day reminds her of what she grew up with. Learn with Aloha also handed out shells to children to share a message that everyone is unique and important, and offered information about hula dancing, Polynesian cultural classes and lei-making.
Families attending for the first time said the free admission and wide range of vendors and activities made the event an easy outing. Local businesses also used the day to introduce children to creative opportunities, including free coloring pages and art stations.
