One of Katseye’s main vocalists, Sophia Laforteza, says she is taking a hiatus from the group to focus on her mental health, according to Rolling Stone.
In a statement posted on social media, the 23-year-old singer said the decision was difficult, but that she needs to put her health first. She added that taking care of her mind and body now will help her continue doing what she loves in the long run.
HYBE, the group’s management, said it supports Laforteza and that the health, safety and long-term well-being of the artists remain its top priority. The company said it will keep monitoring her progress and hopes to see her back with Katseye.
The move comes after another member, Manon Bannerman, also stepped away from the group in February for mental health reasons. Katseye is scheduled to make its Tonight Show debut on August 12, with additional summer appearances planned, including the 88rising Head in the Clouds Festival in Los Angeles on August 8.
