Katey Sagal is looking back on the last time she was with John Ritter before his sudden death in September 2003, according to E! News.
Sagal said on Ted Danson’s Where Everybody Knows Your Name podcast that they were doing press in the afternoon and that Ritter was gone by that night. She said she was there when he became ill during production of the second season of 8 Simple Rules.
The actress said Ritter still feels close to her more than 20 years later, describing his energy, love of laughter and joy as things she still senses around her. She also said he had a darker side, but added that he brought a lot of light to those around him.
Sagal also praised Ritter’s physical comedy and recalled that he liked joking about face acting while they worked together on the sitcom, which also starred Kaley Cuoco. In earlier comments on The Howard Stern Show in 2012, she said Ritter had not felt well after they shot a promo, was later taken to the hospital and died a short time after.
