Journey multi-instrumentalist Jonathan Cain has criticized Bruce Springsteen, calling him “an annoying, bitter old man” who “should shut up” about politics, according to NME.
Cain made the comments on The Complete Disaster Network podcast while talking about his belief that artists should keep politics out of their work. He also said he tries not to spend time discussing politics on stage and called that kind of celebrity commentary “a bad look.”
During the interview, Cain said he is releasing a patriotic song titled “The Winds Of Freedom: A Salute To America” to mark the United States’ 250th anniversary. He also said he and Kid Rock are among a small group of conservative musicians who are outspoken about their beliefs.
Cain later added that he used to like Springsteen, but now finds him “annoying.” He also pointed to Springsteen’s “Born in the USA,” saying the song can be read as a criticism of the country.
Springsteen has recently spoken in favor of “critical patriotism” and has been vocal in his criticism of President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, Journey are in the middle of their farewell tour, which is expected to continue until 2027, according to NME.
