Jon Batiste and Suleika Jaouad’s relationship began long before they became a couple, according to E! News. The two first crossed paths at band camp as kids and later reconnected while studying at Juilliard.
In interviews cited by E! News, both described an immediate impression on each other, though they did not begin dating until 2014. Jaouad said she quickly felt he was unlike anyone she had met, while Batiste recalled noticing her strong communication skills right away.
The couple later married in February 2022, just months after Jaouad learned her leukemia had returned for a second time. Their wedding came right before she entered the hospital for a bone marrow transplant the next day.
Batiste and Jaouad have continued to support each other through her cancer treatment and remission, with both saying their commitment has remained steady through changing circumstances. According to E! News, Batiste recently canceled multiple shows while dealing with personal circumstances.
