JoJo Siwa is clarifying how she has described her sexuality over the years, according to E! News. In a July 31 TikTok with Dancing With the Stars pro Ezra Sosa, Siwa responded to his comment that she “was lesbian, but is clearly not anymore” by saying, “She was.”
Siwa has said before that she does not feel comfortable using the word “lesbian” to describe herself, even after coming out in 2021. In earlier comments, she explained that she prefers to say she is gay and said the term “lesbian” does not feel natural to her.
The former Dance Moms star has also said she felt pressured into the label early in her journey. In 2025 comments to the Daily Mail, Siwa said that pressure came from both inside and outside the community, including from people she knew and partners she had dated.
Siwa told E! News in 2025 that she now feels best described by the word “queer,” calling it an umbrella term that simply means “I’m just me.” She said that love comes in many forms and that sexuality is a wide spectrum.
