Johnny Marr has released a new song, “Ophelia,” giving fans another preview of his fifth solo album, according to NME.
The track is the second single from The Age Of Everything, which is due out on October 2. It follows the album’s lead song, “Spin.”
Marr said the song was inspired by the strength and nobility of William Shakespeare’s Hamlet character, Ophelia. He said the name fit the track well and that the idea came together naturally while writing.
The new release comes after Marr performed a homecoming show at Manchester’s Castlefield Bowl earlier this month. He is also scheduled to play Dublin’s Iveagh Gardens, while his London show at the OVO Arena Wembley, originally planned for October 24, has been postponed.
