John Lydon says he will never make peace with his former Sex Pistols bandmates, according to NME. In a new interview with Rolling Stone, the singer said the fallout from their legal dispute has left no room for a reunion.
The conflict dates back to a 2021 lawsuit over the use of the band’s music in Danny Boyle’s biopic series Pistol. Lydon refused to license the songs, but he ultimately lost the case and the series was released on Disney+ in 2022.
Lydon said he could not move past the court fight, which he tied to the period when his wife Nora was dying of Alzheimer’s. He said the legal battle cost him money he could have used to care for her, and he also criticized the series as a “mockumentary.”
When asked about a possible Sex Pistols reunion, Lydon said it was “in the minus infinities.” He also took aim at bassist Glen Matlock, saying he had never liked him and describing him as “a very unlikeable fellow,” while dismissing any idea of getting back together with the group.
Elsewhere in the interview, Lydon referred to the current Sex Pistols lineup with Frank Carter as a tribute act. The band has continued without him, while Lydon has been active with Public Image Ltd and is set to tour North America later this year.
