Jerry O’Connell is apologizing for the way he ended his relationship with Giuliana Rancic, saying he broke up with her through an intercom after she came to his condominium unannounced, according to E! News.
On the July 19 episode of Kelly Ripa’s SiriusXM show Let’s Talk Off Camera, O’Connell said he was not expecting Rancic to arrive and told her she could not come up or come over without warning. He also said there was another woman at his home at the time.
O’Connell said he does not remember the exact words he used, but he acknowledged that the breakup was handled badly. He described himself as a “pretty terrible boyfriend” and said he should have been clearer about how troubled the relationship had become.
Rancic later wrote about the split in her 2016 memoir Going Off Script, comparing the breakup to a customer service call. O’Connell said he could not confirm the exact quote from her book, but added that it sounded like something that could have made for a good memoir line.
