JENNIE of BLACKPINK says Rihanna is the artist she most hopes to resemble in her own career, according to Billboard. In a Cosmopolitan cover story published Monday, JENNIE said Rihanna is her “biggest dream” because of the impact she has across pop culture, music and art.
“She’s so inspiring for me,” JENNIE told the magazine, adding that finding that kind of influence for herself “would be a dream.” Rihanna’s long list of achievements includes 14 No. 1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100.
The interview also included praise for other artists JENNIE admires. She called Doechii a “walking inspiration” and said she was drawn to her creativity and visual style before collaborating with her on “ExtraL.” She also spoke warmly about Gracie Abrams, who wrote a tribute to JENNIE for TIME100 earlier this year.
JENNIE said she was moved to tears when she saw Abrams’ tribute and described herself as a big fan of the singer’s work. She also said she is looking forward to seeing Rosalía on her Lux Tour, adding that she has been learning Spanish so she can sing along to “La Perla.”
The cover story comes after JENNIE released her solo single “Less Than a Lover” on July 24. She has also spent part of the summer performing on her own at festivals including Lollapalooza in Chicago and the Governor’s Ball in New York City.
