John Mayer marked the one-year anniversary of Dead & Company’s three concerts in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park, which were the final time Bob Weir performed onstage, according to Rolling Stone.
The shows were held to celebrate the Grateful Dead’s 60th anniversary and included surprise appearances by Grahame Lesh, Sturgill Simpson, Trey Anastasio and others. Mayer said the run came after Dead & Company’s second residency at the Sphere in Las Vegas.
In an Instagram post, Mayer said Weir performed through a complex health battle and spent nine hours onstage over three nights. He described Weir’s decision to play as an act of defiance and said he admired the way the guitarist kept the focus on the music.
Mayer ended his post with praise for Weir’s final performances, calling them a lesson in how to live. The article notes that Weir later died in January 2026 at age 78, and that his last major interview with Rolling Stone took place in March 2025.
