Jamie Lee Curtis is getting candid about why she did not enjoy filming New Girl, even though she says the show itself was funny, according to E! News.
Curtis, 68, appeared as Zooey Deschanel’s mother in six episodes of the series between 2012 and 2018. Speaking Aug. 10 at NBCUniversal’s Summer Backlot Experience, she said she “hated” working on the single-camera comedy because there was no live audience and the set felt too quiet for her taste.
She said the format made the experience feel more like shooting a movie than a sitcom. Curtis stressed that her comments were about the structure of the show, not the cast, which included Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris, Jake Johnson and Hannah Simone.
Curtis said she prefers multi-camera sitcoms and pointed to Anything But Love as one of her best work experiences. She also said she is excited about her upcoming NBC multi-cam sitcom Newlyweds, where she is serving as a writer and executive producer as well as appearing in the show.
