Bird & Byron, the musical duo made up of childhood friends Blake Bergere and Nick Lorenz from New Albany, Ohio, moved on to the live shows on NBC’s America’s Got Talent, according to Billboard.
The pair took part in the Judges’ Callbacks round after earning Yes votes during their audition. Facing elimination on the Aug. 11 episode, they performed an original song called “By My Side.”
Bergere, who sings for the duo, and Lorenz, who plays guitar and adds programmed backing instruments, were praised by the judges for their sound. Howie Mandel called Bergere’s singing and the guitar work “haunting” and said the act was original.
After the performance, Mandel sent Bird & Byron through to the Live Quarterfinals, which begin Tuesday, Aug. 18 on NBC and will stream the next day on Peacock. They join several other acts moving forward, while others were eliminated in the round.
