Jade took part in Rolling Stone’s Song Shuffle series backstage at Lollapalooza, where she said she had only recently started using Spotify’s like button. She described the songs she had saved so far as “quite eclectic.”
The first track to come up at random was Little Mix’s “DNA,” a song Jade said she was surprised to hear because she sang on it. She called Little Mix “one of the best girl bands ever” and said she remembered writing the track soon after leaving school, even using a textbook to help with the lyrics.
Jade also talked about a few songs she skips from Little Mix’s catalog, including “Oops,” which she said she “despise[s].” She added that she prefers the demo version of “Black Magic” recorded by songwriter Kamille.
The shuffle then moved to “It Girl” from Jade’s debut solo album, That’s Showbiz Baby! She said the song works as a clapback to men who have wronged her in the music industry, and added that artists should be their “biggest fan.”
Other picks in her library included “What You Own” from Rent, Bon Iver’s “Skinny Love,” Jimmy Nail’s “Big River,” MNEK’s “At Night,” and “Plastic Box” from her own album, which she called “a really fucking good pop song,” according to Rolling Stone.
