Haruomi Hosono has released his version of the Moonglows’ “Sincerely,” according to Pitchfork. The song appears on his upcoming album, Yours Sincerely, which will arrive September 11 through Ghostly.
The new track features a sparse acoustic-guitar arrangement. Pitchfork notes that it is a translation by Hosono, who explained in a press release that he wanted to reconnect the song with the original meaning of “sincerely” as “from the heart.”
Hosono also said the original 1954 doo-wop song, written by Harvey Fuqua and associated with the Moonglows, inspired him to write the lyrics in Japanese. He added that he wanted to honor both the spirit of the 1950s and the song itself.
In addition to the new release, Hosono is set to perform with Toro y Moi at Radio City Music Hall in New York on September 16 and at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles on September 20.
