Garbage marked what Shirley Manson described as likely their last headline show in Scotland with a major performance at Edinburgh Castle over the weekend, according to NME. The band were the final headliners of the venue’s summer concert series and played on Saturday, July 11.
The Scottish-American group performed songs including “Vow,” “Stupid Girl,” “Special,” and “Push It,” along with a cover of The Cure’s “Lovesong.” For the occasion, the band appeared in kilts, and Manson said the show felt like “the culmination of 40 years in music.”
Manson also spoke about the personal meaning of the night, saying her late father’s eyes “lit up” when she told him they had booked the castle. During the set, she led the crowd in singing “Happy Birthday” for her sister, Lindy-Jane, who was watching from the stands.
After the concert, former Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon posted on Instagram that the evening was “very special.” She said seeing the band in 1999 as a “brand new” MSP and then again 27 years later felt like a “real full circle moment,” and praised Manson as “an absolute powerhouse.”
Garbage are set to continue their European tour this week, with shows scheduled in London, Belfast and Dublin on July 14, 17 and 18, according to NME.
