Andy Burnham has blind-ranked a selection of his favourite British bands, with Oasis landing at number one, according to NME. The list also included Elbow, Courteeners, Wolf Alice and The Smiths.
In the interview, Burnham put Elbow in second place, followed by Courteeners and Wolf Alice. He said he likes Wolf Alice a lot, but chose to keep them at number four because he did not know which bands would be named next.
The final spot went to The Smiths, though Burnham said he might have ranked them higher if he had known the order in advance. The former Greater Manchester mayor has often spoken about his love of music and the Manchester scene.
Burnham has previously been involved in music-related campaigns and events, including using Oasis’ song “Some Might Say” in a by-election video and praising The Courteeners during his mayoral election victory speech in 2021. Earlier this year, he also said he supported Coldplay’s move to donate part of their profits to help grassroots music.
