Police in Dade City, Florida, were sent on an unusual call when a loose emu was spotted wandering town, according to UPI Odd News.
The Dade City Police Department said on social media that officers responded in the morning and found the bird had “decided it was the perfect day for a stroll around town.” The department added that dispatch sent them on an “emu hunt” before coffee had fully kicked in.
Officers were able to capture the emu without injury to either people or the bird. Police also joked online that chasing an emu was not something covered in academy training.
The department shared photos showing the Australian bird riding in the back of a patrol cruiser after it was caught.
