Kelly Ripa was out of the July 27 episode of Live! after having a gum graft surgery, according to E! News. Her husband and co-host, Mark Consuelos, told guest Kevin Jonas that Ripa had recently undergone the procedure and was temporarily sidelined.
Consuelos said Ripa had delayed the surgery for years because she did not want to miss time from work. He added that her dentist had told her five years earlier that she could have the procedure in about five years, and Ripa joked she did not think she would still be on the air by then.
While Ripa recovers, Consuelos said she is doing well but is unable to speak. Jonas joked that the silence must be especially difficult for someone known as a strong conversationalist, and Consuelos agreed.
Consuelos also said the recovery has been painful for Ripa, who is set to miss Live! tapings for the next week. The couple, both 55, have discussed medical procedures on the show before, including Consuelos’ 2024 comments comparing his foot surgery pain with Ripa’s C-sections.
