The National Weather Service issued a flood advisory for parts of Maricopa and Pinal counties through 7:30 p.m. Thursday, along with a flood watch that remains in effect until 5 a.m. Friday, according to InMaricopa.
Heavy thunderstorms have already led to minor flooding in low-lying areas and places with poor drainage across Pinal County. Water may cover some roadways, and ponding is possible in urban areas.
Radar and automated rain gauges showed as much as half an inch of rain had fallen by 5:34 p.m., with forecasters saying another three-quarters of an inch could still come down.
The National Weather Service says a flood watch means conditions are favorable for flooding, while a flood advisory means minor flooding is already happening or expected soon. Drivers are being urged to avoid flooded roads, never drive through standing water, and report flooding to local emergency services or law enforcement when it is safe to do so.
