Fatboy Slim is preparing a new reissue of his debut album, Better Living Through Chemistry, to celebrate its 30th anniversary, according to NME.
The album first arrived in 1996 as Norman Cook’s first release under the Fatboy Slim name. It followed his time with acts including Freak Power, Pizzaman, Mighty Dub Katz, Beats International and The Housemartins.
According to NME, the record helped lay groundwork for the late-1990s big beat scene and drew on hip-hop, funk, house, reggae and indie influences. It grew out of Cook’s Big Beat Boutique club nights at Brighton’s Concorde and included singles such as “Everybody Needs A 303,” “Punk To Funk” and “Going Out Of My Head.”
The anniversary edition will be available digitally on September 25, with CD and vinyl editions set for October 2. It will feature remastered tracks, B-sides, rare material, and new remixes from Sem Jacobs, with additional digital remixes from Chinonegro and Ammo Avenue.
Physical copies will also include new liner notes from journalist Alexis Petridis. Fatboy Slim said the album captured him “figuring out” his sound and called the reissue a chance to give the record “another lease of life.”
