Ellen Pompeo was not included in a new Grey’s Anatomy cast photo shared on Instagram on July 24, according to E! News, even though the series is preparing for its 23rd season.
The picture featured longtime cast members Chandra Wilson, Debbie Allen, James Pickens Jr., Camilla Luddington and Caterina Scorsone, along with newcomers Trevor Jackson, Adelaide Kane, Niko Terho, Harry Shum Jr. and Anthony Hill.
Pompeo, who has played Dr. Meredith Grey since the show began in 2005, stepped back from regular on-screen time starting with season 19 in 2022 so she could spend more time with her family and work on other projects. She has continued to narrate the series, serve as an executive producer and appear in multiple episodes each season.
According to Deadline, Pompeo is still expected to appear in the upcoming 23rd season. The report also noted that longtime cast members Kevin McKidd and Kim Raver exited the show at the end of last season.
