A rescue team was called to Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in Scotland, after a Labrador named Tokyo became sick during a family hike, according to UPI Odd News.
Christina Bluhme said her 5-year-old black lab began showing worrying symptoms about an hour from the summit. She told CNN that Tokyo grew weak in her hind legs and started drifting in and out of consciousness.
The family tried to carry the 53-pound dog down the mountain, but heavy rain made the effort difficult. They then contacted the Lochaber Mountain Rescue Team, which had volunteers nearby after responding to another emergency.
Tokyo was brought down on a stretcher and taken to Crown Vets in Fort William, where veterinarians determined the dog likely consumed cannabis. Bluhme said the symptoms and a strong smell during a temperature check pointed to marijuana exposure.
According to Bluhme, vets said Tokyo may have eaten a cannabis edible left on the trail or come into contact with human waste from a marijuana user. The dog was able to go home the next day and was doing much better, her owner said.
