Deftones opened their summer 2026 European tour in Vienna on August 16, playing ‘Risk’ live for the first time in 15 years, according to NME.
The Sacramento band performed at METAStadt with support from Show Me The Body and delivered a 21-song set that reached across their catalog. The show included four songs from last year’s ‘Private Music’: ‘My Mind Is A Mountain,’ ‘Locked Club,’ ‘Infinite Source’ and ‘Milk Of The Madonna.’
‘Risk’ originally appeared on 2010’s ‘Diamond Eyes’ and was written in the wake of the 2008 car accident that left bassist Chi Cheng in a coma. Frontman Chino Moreno has described it as one of the most touching and moving songs the band has written. Cheng died in April 2013 at age 42.
Deftones are scheduled to continue their run in Berlin before festival appearances at Cabaret Vert and Pukkelpop. They will also headline the Outbreak edition of All Points East in London’s Victoria Park on August 23, with IDLES, Amyl And The Sniffers, Interpol and AFI also on the bill.
