David Byrne shares 'Biking Playlist' and reflects on pop's changing lines

David Byrne has shared a new playlist called “Biking Playlist” and offered his thoughts on how pop music is defined, according to NME.

The former Talking Heads frontman is currently touring behind his latest solo album, Who Is The Sky?, which came out last September. While on the road, he has been listening to artists including Olivia Rodrigo, Sofia Isella, Phoebe Bridgers and Mitski, and gathered those songs into the latest David Byrne Radio installment.

Byrne said he and his band travel with folding bikes and often use them to explore the places they visit. He added that when he has free time, he likes to go for a ride to clear his head, and he will listen to the playlist if he is alone and on a secure path or quiet road.

In a note with the playlist, Byrne wrote that his idea of pop music is broad and that the line between mainstream and unconventional music changes over time. He also said he does not think of songs as being inside or outside those categories, because the rules are often broken.

The playlist follows recent performances Byrne joined Anna Calvi for in Halifax and Cardiff, and comes as he prepares for an intimate UK book tour in November for his upcoming book Sleeping Beauties, with stops planned in London, Brighton, Manchester, Bristol and Edinburgh.
