The Kinks’ Dave Davies has clarified recent comments he made about The Beatles, saying he remains a fan of the Liverpool group, according to NME.
Davies had previously reignited the long-running rivalry between the bands by saying George Harrison was the only Beatle he “really liked” and that John Lennon “didn’t like The Kinks.” He also said Lennon did not seem to like many people.
In a new interview with i News, Davies said, “You’d be a fool if you didn’t like The Beatles,” and explained that he especially admired Harrison because he seemed thoughtful. He added that Paul McCartney had said “wonderful things” about The Kinks, while describing Lennon as “difficult.”
Davies also said he still feels sad about Lennon’s death in 1980, calling it “such a waste.” He later reinforced his position on X, writing that he likes The Beatles and appreciates McCartney’s kind comments about The Kinks.
The remarks came as Dave and Ray Davies opened The Kinks: Brothers, a collaborative exhibition with British portrait painter Christian Furr. The show is running at Gibson Garage London until September 6.
