Danny DeVito says he and Rhea Perlman have stayed close even after their split, with the pair still talking every day and getting together for weekly meals, according to E! News.
DeVito told AARP that he and Perlman also see their grandchildren together and have managed to keep a strong family bond. The actors are still technically married, even though they separated in 2017.
The former couple share three children: Lucy, Grace and Jacob. DeVito said the relationship works because family and friends are what matter most, and he considers himself fortunate to have reliable people in his life.
DeVito and Perlman met in 1971 and later married in January 1982. They worked together on projects including Taxi, Matilda and 10 Items or Less before announcing their separation in 2012 and briefly reconciling before splitting again in 2017.
Perlman has said the two chose not to divorce because they had built up so much history and shared love over the years. She has also said that, after a difficult adjustment, their current friendship is better because the tension of being married is gone.
