There’s just one week left to ride the swan boats at Copper Sky Regional Park, as the rental operation is set to end Sunday, Aug. 30, according to the city.
Boat Rentals of America has operated the pedal boats and surrey bike rentals under a 17-month contract. A city spokesperson said the company’s final day will be Aug. 30.
The city says it does not currently plan to look for a new operator, run the boats itself, or move ahead with any current dock plans. The decision to end the rentals was made by Boat Rentals of America, though no reason was given.
Maricopa does not own or operate any of the boats, but it has owned and rented out two surrey bikes since 2022. The boats were first announced in 2024, following installation of an observation and floating pier as part of a nearly $800,000 improvement project at Copper Sky.
The city had once considered buying the boats, but the arrangement with Boat Rentals of America was confirmed when the boats were introduced in March 2025, according to InMaricopa.
