Maricopa residents will vote on the city’s next general plan this fall. Proposition 414, called the Advancing Maricopa General Plan, will be on the Nov. 3 ballot, according to a city news release cited by InMaricopa.
The updated plan would replace Maricopa’s 2016 general plan. State law requires cities to refresh these plans every 10 years, and the city council approved the new version on June 3 after months of discussion and public input.
According to InMaricopa, the plan is meant to guide long-term decisions on land use, growth, transportation, parks and open space, and economic development. It does not approve specific development projects or promise particular businesses, services or amenities.
Matthew Klyszeiko of Michael Baker International, the consulting firm that helped revise the document and gather feedback, said in June that the plan is intended to set out the community’s goals and policies. If voters approve Proposition 414, the plan would serve as Maricopa’s planning framework through 2036.
Residents are being encouraged to read the plan before casting their vote, according to the city.
