A circus performer was accidentally struck in the neck by an arrow during a show at a county fair in upstate New York, according to state police and the event organizers.
The incident happened Friday night at the Orange County Fair in Middletown, northwest of New York City. Ana Daza Tavera, 42, and Edwin Cuervo Rangel, 38, both of Waukesha, Wisconsin, were performing a crossbow sharpshooting act when Tavera accidentally hit Rangel in the neck as he held a foam target, ABC News reported.
Cuervo Rangel was flown to a hospital in stable condition, and the circus canceled its performance for the night. Circus Murcia ringmaster Benjamin Jackson said Monday that the arrow struck the side of Rangel’s neck in an area with mostly soft tissue and no major blood vessels.
Jackson said the arrow was removed safely, stitches were given, and Rangel was released from the hospital on Saturday. The circus returned to its regular schedule on Saturday, but without the crossbow act.
