Carly Rae Jepsen is returning to Broadway, but not as a performer. According to Stereogum, she is teaming up with Lena Dunham on a new musical version of the 1999 teen rom-com 10 Things I Hate About You.
The project has been in the works for more than a year, and Variety reports that it is set to open next year, with first preview performances scheduled for Aug. 17, 2027.
Dunham and Jessica Huang are adapting the book for the musical, while Jepsen is co-writing the songs with Ethan Gruska, a frequent collaborator of Phoebe Bridgers. Playbill says Christopher Wheeldon, who won a Tony for MJ The Musical, will direct.
Tom Kitt, another Tony winner, will handle the arrangements, orchestrations and music supervision. The cast and theater have not been announced yet. Jepsen’s new double album Day And Night is due out next month, according to the report.
