BTS member V says he has been living with hearing loss for nearly two and a half years, according to Rolling Stone. During a livestream Wednesday, the singer, whose real name is Kim Tae-hyung, said the hearing in one ear is about one-third as strong as the other.
V did not say what caused the problem. He told fans that the issue got worse during his mandatory military service, and at first he brushed it off as something he could overcome through mental strength, the BBC reported.
As the condition continued, V sought medical help. He is now taking medication and going to the hospital regularly, according to the report.
V’s comments came as BTS continues its Arirang world tour. During the same livestream, Jungkook said he is also dealing with a shin injury that is close to becoming a stress fracture, though he plans to keep performing.
