Chicago’s Bohemian National Cemetery is facing an investigation after Illinois Comptroller Susana A. Mendoza said her office received a tip about multiple equipment failures and claims that some human remains awaiting cremation were not kept at the proper temperature, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The cemetery has been ordered to stop accepting bodies while the investigation continues. Despite that, organizers say upcoming concerts at the site are still moving forward.
Empty Bottle Presents has hosted its Beyond The Gate series at the cemetery since 2013, and performances by artists including Grouper, Cindy Lee, Kim Gordon and Godspeed You! Black Emperor have taken place there over the years, according to Stereogum.
Two Beyond The Gate shows are scheduled for next month: Cate Le Bon, Horsegirl and Kinship on Sept. 25, followed by Russian Circles and Pelican on Sept. 26. A representative for Empty Bottle Presents told the Sun-Times those concerts are still on as planned.
Local band Harm’s Way is also set to play a memorial for late guitarist Bo Lueders on Aug. 25, alongside Twitching Tongues, Linda Claire, Weekend Nachos and the Killer.
