Bloc Party share new single ‘Now We Can’t Be Friends’ and announce UK store tour

Bloc Party have released a new single, Now We Can’t Be Friends, and announced a UK record store tour, according to NME.

The track is the latest preview of their upcoming album Anatomy Of A Brief Romance, which the band says follows a chronological story of a relationship, from the first sparks through heartbreak and goodbye. Frontman Kele Okereke described the song as a return to club culture after a breakup, with the character on the dancefloor not speaking to an ex.

Okereke also said the song reflects the idea that intense feelings eventually pass, and that people can be okay once they do. The new single follows previous releases Love Bombs and Coming On Strong.

Anatomy Of A Brief Romance is due out on September 11 through cOnTAGIOUS LTD via Virgin Music Group. The 14-track album was produced by Trevor Horn and will be Bloc Party’s seventh studio album, following 2022’s Alpha Games.

To mark the release, Bloc Party will play a series of record shop shows starting September 9 in Bury and wrapping up September 17 in Leeds. The band is also set to join Muse on their North American tour later this year, before a UK and EU co-headline run with Interpol in the autumn.
