BLACKPINK’s decade of record-breaking milestones, from Coachella to YouTube

Since debuting on Aug. 8, 2016, BLACKPINK has built a long list of achievements alongside its music career, according to Billboard. The group — made up of LISA, JENNIE, ROSÉ and JISOO — has repeatedly set records as an all-female K-pop act with a global following.

Among its early milestones, BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group to appear on the Canadian Hot 100, and later the first female K-pop group to be featured on the cover of Billboard magazine. The group also became the first female K-pop act to have its official YouTube channel reach 20 million subscribers.

BLACKPINK also made major history on YouTube. “Ddu-Du Ddu-Du” became the first music video by a K-pop group to reach 1 billion views on the platform, while “Kill This Love” set a then-record for the biggest music video debut in YouTube history. The later single “How You Like That” went on to break several 24-hour viewing records and earned three Guinness World Records.

On the live stage, BLACKPINK became the first K-pop girl group to perform at Coachella and the first Asian act to headline the festival. The group also earned other notable music industry achievements, including becoming the first female K-pop group to receive an RIAA gold certification.

Billboard noted that many of these accomplishments came before BLACKPINK’s debut studio album, The Album, arrived in October 2020. The group regrouped in 2025 for the DEADLINE World Tour and later released album DEADLINE in 2026 after time apart for solo projects.
