An Australian city brought together more than 600 trombone players in an attempt to break a Guinness World Record, according to UPI Odd News.
The event took place in Ipswich, Queensland, as part of the SPARK Ipswich Arts Festival. Musicians from schools, bands and orchestras across Queensland and beyond joined in to perform "76 Trombones" from The Music Man.
The record attempt was organized by Ipswich City Big Band Music Director Matt Chambers. Ipswich Mayor Teresa Harding said the city is now submitting evidence from the event to Guinness World Records for official verification.
Harding said the effort was about more than setting a number, calling it a showcase of music, local talent and community spirit. The current Guinness World Record for the largest trombone ensemble is 368 players, set in Washington, D.C., in 2012.
